Pacific Union Real Estate, Highland Park has partnered with Council District 1 to raise funds for the installation of a new mural in the heart of Highland Park, to be designed by renowned artist Frank Romero. Join us for an evening of art, live music, and craft cocktails in the heart of Highland Park.
The silent auction fundraiser will be held Thursday, Sept. 27 from 5pm to 8pm at Blind Barber, a speakeasy in the same building as our Highland Park office, as well as in the atrium on the second floor.
Come join the fun, bid on some great items and try the specialty cocktail created especially for the occasion. Enjoy live music played by Beatles tribute band 4 Lads from Liverpool and an art gallery by local painter Bonnie Lambert, who was mentored by Romero.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit Photo Friends LA 501c(3), who will fund the installation of the mural.
“The reason we are working with the community on this mural project is because there is no one artist that represents Northeast Los Angeles like the legendary Frank Romero,” said Bill Cody, Field Deputy for Council District 1 (Highland Park and Mount Washington).
As Romero will is not planning on painting many more murals at this point in his career, this is a rare opportunity to display his art in the community that was the birthplace of his work. By having the mural on city property the mural will be protected and preserved for the foreseeable future.
Sponsorships, donations for the silent auction, and monetary donations are graciously welcomed. If you would like to contribute or get involved, contact Marci Viviano (marciviviano@pacunionla.com).

About Frank Romero
A graduate of Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights, Romero went on to form the seminal art collective “Los Four” along with Carlos Almaraz (1941–1989), Robert de la Rocha (b. 1937) and founder Gilbert Luján(1940–2011) right here in Highland Park. Judithe Hernández (b. 1948) became the official fifth member of Los Four immediately following the group’s history-making exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
The members of Los Four are responsible for many of the most well-known murals of the period. Frank Romero painted several murals around Los Angeles, including Going to the Olympics on a wall of the Hollywood Freeway in downtown Los Angeles.
